For ten years, the Hispanic Women’s Network (HWN) has been a driving force for Latina empowerment in Canada. At its helm is Sandra Riaño, a Colombian psychologist, proud mother, and founder whose mission is to support the integral growth of Latina women — personally, financially, and socially — as they build their lives in Canada.
About the organization. HWN was founded a decade ago with a clear goal: to empower Latina women in every dimension of their lives. The organization focuses on personal growth, financial independence, meaningful connections with other Latinas, and strengthening their establishment in Canada. Over the years, HWN has become a trusted space where women find support, inspiration, and concrete resources to thrive.
Plans for the tenth anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, HWN is organizing five major events throughout the year. On March 11, the network commemorated International Women’s Day with a day of personal love featuring meditation, conferences, and a connection with nature at a beautiful chalet outside the GTA. On May 13, HWN hosts its grand anniversary celebration, featuring a Café-Concert with details kept under wraps until the official announcement.
A message to the community. Sandra’s message to newcomers and longtime community members alike is rooted in introspection. HWN promotes empowerment, leadership, and economic independence, and the first step is for every woman to honestly ask herself: “Am I where life has placed me, or where I truly want to be?” That question becomes the starting point for real change, personal satisfaction, and continuous growth — and it reminds Latina women that their lives should not be defined solely by pleasing others.
